AKA: Crow and Willow Grouse Woman

Hand pulled by the artist from the original end-grain maple block on an Ettan etching press at Juneau, Alaska, February, 1990.

An Athabascan tale from the Yukon River country.

All the men wanted to marry a certain young woman (Willow Grouse) but the parents chased them all away because they wanted her to marry a rich man. Raven said, "I'll fix them!" He pretended to be a rich man by dressing himself in a dentalium necklace and spent the night with the girl but in the morning the family discovered it was just old Raven and pulled off his beak. Raven got his beak back but he had put pitch in the poor girl's hair and her sister washed it for a week and couldn't get it out.
