Editor's note: this was one of Dale's earliest wood engravings. To accommodate its lengthy name, she titled, numbered, and signed the print along the images' left, bottom, and right sides.
The print is a portrait bust of a walrus who looked so lugubrious that I gave it that very long name. This is a wood engraving, which is something quite different from a woodcut. It is done with engraving tools on very hard end-grain wood – boxwood in this case.
