AKA: He Makes a Canoe

Hand pulled by the artist from the original end grain maple block on an Ettan etching press at Sitka, Alaska, May 1991.

Note: this image is illustrated in the book Tales From the Dena: Indian Stories from the Tanana, Koyukuk & Yukon Rivers.

The Man Who Went Down the River set the frame for a canoe and went to sleep. While he slept the animal women, Mouse, Weasel, Fox and Raven sewed the birch bark on his canoe with roots. An Athabascan folk-tale.
