Editor's note: this image is illustrated in the book Sun Signs from a Polar Star: A Northern Zodiac.

Aries, the golden ram who rescued Phrixus who had been condemned to death. Later Zeus put the ran in the heavens. Here they are shown as a mountain sheep carrying an Eskimo whaler in parka, mukluks, and seal-skin breeches.

Those born under this sign are adventurous and independent. They love their freedom and are impatient with restrictions. Outspoken and energetic they are sometimes disconcerting in their direct approach.
