A Chugach Eskimo story. A blind boy lived beside a lake. One day he called the loon and begged her to help him get his sight.

The loon took the boy on her back and dived and swam around the lake five times. When she came up the boy could see. He ran home, got a beautiful dentalium necklace and fastened it around the neck of the loon to remember him by. And that is why the loon has a white breast.
