The face of Berry Woman, and many of the animals she created, are shown in concentric circles – polar bear, seal, walrus, whale, sea otter. She cares for all the animals. It is based on a mask at the Sheldon Jackson Museum in Sitka, Alaska, which DeArmond had described as "the most beautiful mask I have ever seen."

The unlikely source of this idea was a Victorian plaque wreathed with flowers, fruits, and cherubim. Here, arctic animals were used instead.
